BLACK CROWES Frontman Returns To Action With "New Earth Mud"

August 14, 2002

BLACK CROWES frontman Chris Robinson will issue his solo debut, entitled New Earth Mud, on October 22nd via Best Buy's Redline Entertainment label.

Like the singer's recent live shows, New Earth Mud finds Robinson primarily assisted by producer Paul Stacey, who also plays guitars, drums, and keyboards throughout the 12-track set. BIG SUGAR members Gordie Johnson and Kelly Hoppe guest on "Untangle My Mind", while BLACK CROWES keyboardist Ed Harsch lends co-writing credits to "Silver Car" and "Kids That Ain't Got None". Former CROWES guitarist Marc Ford co-wrote "Sunday Sound", while STONE TEMPLE PILOTS guitarist Dean DeLeo co-wrote "Better Than the Sun".

"Writing the songs was easy, but I really felt naked when I got into the studio and it was just me and Paul," Robinson said in a statement. "I was saying to myself, 'OK big-shot, you've been saying how you wanted to make a record. Well, here it is. What are you going to do?' I love that feeling, and to be honest I hadn't felt that way in a long time. I'm very proud of everything I did in the BLACK CROWES, but it seems like I've been waiting a lifetime to make this record."
